This town, 85 mi/135 km south of Dublin and founded by Vikings, is home to the Waterford Crystal factory. Plan half a day to tour the factory (weekdays only) and watch crystal being made from beginning to end (there's also a display and shop at the factory). In town, pause to look at the French Church (where Huguenots worshipped), Reginald's Tower, the City Hall, the cathedral and other beautiful buildings. Good walking tours leave from the tourist office. In September, the Waterford Light Opera Festival is held. http://www.waterfordtourism.org.
