Piazza San Carlo dates back to the 17th century and has been called the "drawing room of Turin" because of its picturesque noble buildings and the twin churches San Carlo and Santa Cristina. The square contains two renowned historic cafes—Caffe Torino and Caffe San Carlo, as well as the Libreria Antiquaria Gilibert, an antique bookshop with 18th- and 19th-century books and prints.
