Tobago Cays Travel Guide

Tobago Cays Guide Overview

These four tiny and idyllic islands—Petit Rameau, Petit Bateau, Jamesby and Barabel—are surrounded by turquoise waters and the magnificent Horseshoe Reef (one of the largest reefs in the Caribbean). Designated a marine park, the islands have wonderful beaches and incredible diving and snorkeling. What they don't have is people. The Tobago Cays provide a haven for cruising yachts, and at any given time during the season (November-May), you can spy nearly 100 masts tucked in and around the cays.

Shore excursions are beach-oriented, as the cays are nothing more than large rocks fringed with powdery white sand. One of the islets is only a sandbar with a palm tree—you've probably seen it in television ads. They are also a favorite location for swimsuit photo shoots. To reach the Tobago Cays, charter a boat on St. Vincent, Bequia or Union Island.
