Right next door to Goblin Hill Villas, this hillside resort immediately charms arrivals with its four pointed-roof villas overlooking the sea. The sound of wood chimes mingles with the chirping birds and the wafting sea breeze, and the grounds are carefully maintained without sacrificing their natural feeling. The location is stunning enough, and agreeable service is set to match the exacting standards of the well-traveled guests who stay here.
Guests can dine in the sunny dining hall, have meals catered to their rooms, or share a romantic candlelit dinner on a stone terrace beneath almond and fig trees. The chef uses many
locally grown herbs and spices (many are grown on the property) to prepare the Jamaican and international cuisine. An unusual tree bar with a thatch roof mixes up drinks, and guests can indulge while strolling through the vivacious hibiscus garden.
Besides hiking, bird-watching, and kicking back poolside with a drink while reclining in a cushioned chaise, activity is limited to a single lighted tennis court. The oval-shaped pool and terrace enjoy perfect views of the Blue Lagoon, and just up the hill, at the end of a jungle trail, is an open-air, highly acclaimed Aveda spa with a whirlpool. Exotic treatments include outdoor
aromatherapy massage, Vichy showers, and simple relaxation in the steam room. The low room count ensures that a treatment never requires much of a wait. The resort arranges day tours and activities in the Port Antonio area.
The spacious and bright villas display African design and feature air-conditioning, ceiling fans, king beds, bamboo furniture, clock radios, TVs, DVD players and movies, CD players, phones, minibars and Internet access. Large baths supply tubs or showers and hair dryers, but slightly frayed towels mar the appearance. The one-bedroom villa even has duvets and a fireplace, but don't laugh; the temperature once dropped to 50 degrees in the winter of 2004. Though smaller, rooms in the two-bedroom, two-bath villa are no less comfortable. The chef, bartender and housekeeper provide deft 24-hour room service.
Rates include all meals and beverages, horseback riding, beach access at the Blue Lagoon and one massage for each guest. A minimum stay of four nights is required. Without the fuss of the more popular tourist spots, this resort brings forth the true lifestyle of the friendly Jamaican people.
