Located across the road from siblings, The Bretton Arms Country Inn and The Mount Washington Hotel, at the base of Mount Washington, this contemporary motor-style guesthouse is noteworthy for its ideal location and extensive facilities. Excellent for families looking for affordable accommodations in a great location, this inn is five minutes from ski areas and offers golf, tennis, swimming and skating.
The modest ski lounge, warmed by a large corner fireplace, also houses the small reception area,
and a big-screen TV awaits in the adjacent lounge. The main dining room has striking views of Mount Washington, game trophies on the walls, and a family-oriented menu of pizza and sandwiches. The former baggage shed makes a unique, popular lounge.
Recreational facilities are shared with Mount Washington, and include clay tennis courts, a heated indoor pool with a whirlpool and sauna, a large outdoor pool, a game room, golf courses and stables. Parking is ample and free, but pets are not permitted.
The well-maintained accommodations occupy the lodge, though it is adjacent to a bevy of lowrise buildings with one- to five-bedroom town houses overlooking the slopes. Lodge rooms feature contemporary decor, rough-hewn pine walls, TVs, two beds on oak platforms, tiled baths and balconies. The three-story town houses tucked away in the woods are privately owned, so the decor varies. All have fully equipped kitchenettes, washers and dryers, and full baths. Two-bedroom units have living rooms with fireplaces and sofa beds, dining rooms, full kitchens with dishwashers, washers and dryers, large loft bedrooms and baths. Three- to five-bedroom units add larger sleeping areas. Town houses require two-night stays.
Families who intend to cook will find this a better bet than Bretton Arms Country Inn; otherwise, the latter is a considerably less expensive option.
