With three buildings fronting the beautiful shoreline, this recent hotel is a pleasant alternative to some of the older properties, although it now outshined by the newer accommodations and finer furnishings of several similarly priced Grace Bay neighbors, despite the addition in 2006 of additional units in two buildings plus a snazzy new restaurant.
Employees take pride in knowing guests by name and recognizing return visitors. Many guests are regulars because of the mix of time-share and vacation ownership on the property.
The reception staff greets arrivals with a welcome drink after being whisked from the airport by complimentary shuttles. The Orchid Bar and Grill—recently enhanced with a deck and bar—is a magnificent restaurant offering international
fare with local ingredients and flavors. Meals can be taken there or by the pool.
Once guests tire of the menu, they have convenient access to a full range of cuisines thanks to the convenient Gecko shuttle (now by reservation) running to other hotels and restaurants. The grounds have also been enhanced with shaded teak lounge chairs.
Guests glean their on-site entertainment at the large pool, swim-up bar and small whirlpool. They also enjoy privileges at a nearby tennis court and complimentary access to the hotel's modest fitness room, recently spruced up with new equipment. The new spa offers a full range of massage and beauty treatments.
Units face the clear blue ocean and feature one- or two-bedroom suites. Each has a full bath, and larger units boast additional full and half baths and granite vanities. Furnishings are contemporary with a tropically-styled decor of artwork and accents, and beds are made with Egyptian cotton linens.
Tile floors add to the clean look of accommodations. Kitchenettes with full appliances, phones with data ports, DVD/CD players, and large furnished balconies are standard appurtenances. The thin walls in original units allow noise to travel easily, although newer suites with their fully equipped kitchens with stainless steel appliances and granite breakfast bars are more soundproof.
A concierge can arrange for watersports equipment and sightseeing activities.
Pets are not permitted. Complimentary Internet access is offered on one computer.
This constantly expanding resort was remodeling its reception area and adding suites, a second swimming pool, a poolside cafe, gourmet restaurant, plus boutique, convenience store, business center, meeting rooms, plus an upscale spa—all set for completion in late 2008 or early 2009.
This well-run property is a solid option on this highly competitive stretch of beach and promises to rise to the level of more sophisticated competitors such as Grace Bay Club and Point Grace when the enhancements are finished.
