The name of this huge national park in Lapland means "big waterfall," and its prime attraction is just that—water cascades 130 ft/40 m from one glacial lake into another. There are herds of wild reindeer in the park, and many hiking and boating possibilities (but because of the snows, don't count on being able to hike until the middle of summer). The town of Gallivare is a good base from which to visit this and other nearby parks, including Muddus National Park with its primeval forest of pine and birch trees, ancient bogs, steep ravines and gorgeous waterfalls. 580 mi/935 km north of Stockholm.
