Don't be fooled by the Seward Museum's bland exterior; it has some fascinating displays including an excellent collection of Alaska Native woven baskets from around the state. The museum also includes gold-rush memorabilia and artifacts from the 1780s, when the Russians had a shipyard at Resurrection Bay.
What stands out most is the collection of photographs from the 1964 Good Friday Earthquake: The strongest earthquake ever recorded in North America, it rocked Alaska's coast and destroyed Seward's waterfront. If you have time, try to attend the Iditarod Trail History or Seward History slide shows June-September Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7 pm.
