On the western end of Cape Cod, Sandwich, established in 1637, is the cape's oldest town. The Sandwich Glass Museum, renovated in the 21st century, displays the products of a glass factory founded in 1825.
Demonstrations are offered several times a day. Thornton W. Burgess, Sandwich son and author of the Peter Rabbit series of children's books, has a museum devoted to his manuscripts and memorabilia. Nearby Heritage Plantation is a 75-acre/30-hectare farm-turned-arboretum that includes a museum of early U.S. artifacts and vintage automobiles. Green Briar Nature Center is a pleasant spot for walks.
