Most people travel to this small town located 55 mi/90 km northwest of Kigali because it is on the way to or from the Volcanoes National Park.
There's nothing much to see except its market, but it does afford some wonderful views of volcanoes to the north and west. Nearby Lake Burera is worth exploring as well. Like Butare (Huye), Ruhengeri was officially renamed in 2006, but the name Musanze has yet to catch on locally.
