Ribe is the oldest continuously occupied city in Denmark. Many old brick-and-timber buildings are still standing; we especially liked the 12th-century cathedral that sits on the site of one of the country's first churches, built about AD 860.
In the evening, a night watchman strolls through town singing traditional folk songs. Plan to stop there for about two hours.
