There is no hint of the old Soviet hotel that was the precursor of the nine-story Radisson SAS Daugava. The property reopened in 1994 after being massively extended, refurbished and modernized. Although it's on the wrong side of the river from Latvia's old town, it has great views of it, and the historic area is only a 10-minute walk across a nearby bridge. It was the hotel of choice for the Queen of England and President George Bush during their respective 2006 visits to Riga.
