Overlooking the river, this suite-hotel targets self-sufficient businesspeople and leisure travelers who need room to move. With its elegant contemporary bent and hop-to service, this is a vastly superior version of the modest Pacific International Apartments at the other end of town.
Minimally landscaped grounds surround this striking, contemporary high-rise with glass accents. The hotel is ostensibly a residential hotel, with most guests taking advantage of the accommodations' lovely designer kitchens. But limited public areas do span a small lobby lounge furnished with tropical touches, a
modest restaurant and bar, and an alfresco area beside the pool. Colorful local art decorates public areas throughout.
The elegant but informal restaurant specializes in fresh Australian cooking prepared with a French hand. Diners can eat in the sandstone courtyard, which adjoins the clublike bar.
The recreation deck is hard to beat, with lush tropical landscaping weaving around a heated pool, whirlpool and sauna. The Aussie cricket team often works out in the top-notch
gym, and joggers enjoy the track in the adjacent park.
A tiny business center suits very basic needs, other business services are offered through reception, and meetings are limited to 150 people. Valet parking incurs modest charges. Pets are not permitted.
The spacious suites are the focus of attention here, with their silky oak and rattan furniture, local art and the usual electronic goodies, including variable-quality Internet access. Each suite has a sitting room with sofa bed, a full kitchen, dining area, laundry facilities, a queen bed, and a large tub in the smartly tiled bath. Units overlook the river or charming garden. All rooms are smoke-free, but travelers with disabilities will do better at the Conrad. Rooms on floors 15-20 incur higher rates for their spectacular city and river views. Room service never stops.
The manager and friendly, efficient staff provide gracious service to a mixed and distinguished clientele.
