A well-preserved historical town, Ptuj has also received numerous awards for being the neatest town in Slovenia. A visit is worth your time, especially to see the impressive Ptuj Regional Museum, which houses Roman artifacts, medieval armor displays and traditional Kurent costumes, among other treasures. (Kurent is a mythical creature who chases away winter and ushers in spring.) Locals wear the locally made Kurent costumes in late winter as they parade through Ptuj and nearby villages.
While in Ptuj, you can also relax by visiting the Ptuj Thermal Spa or by playing a few rounds of golf on the Ptuj Golf Course.
