This agricultural research center and botanical garden is 7 mi/11 km southeast of the main plaza. At 600 ft/180 m above sea level, the property has expansive views. While you're there, you can also visit the Nonsuch Caves, which were occupied by Arawak Indians and contain the fossilized remains of sea plants and animals. (The 14 chambers are now home to a bat colony.) Exercise care when driving to and from Athenry Gardens, because the roads are pocked with potholes along the way. The gardens are only open when cruise ships are in port. Off Red Hassell Road, Port Antonio. Phone 876-993-3740, 876-919-6656 or 876-779-7144.
