Built in 1773 by the Carpenters' Company, this rather small brick building was the meeting place of the First Continental Congress, where grievances against King George III were heavily debated. Among those in attendance were George Washington, John Adams, Samuel Adams and Patrick Henry (Benjamin Franklin was out of town). Visitors still can see eight lovely Windsor chairs that the delegates used. Open Tuesday-Sunday 10 am-4 pm. Closed Monday and Tuesday January and February. Free. 320 Chestnut St. (between Third and Fourth streets), Philadelphia. Phone 215-925-0167. http://www.carpentershall.org.
