On the southeastern end of Paradise Island, down a short hill off the main road in Nassau Harbor, this resort is crowded at the edge of several well-appointed condos, 12 miles from the airport and two miles from Nassau. Guests have free access to the Paradise Island Beach Club, a sister property, to which they can walk in five minutes, or ride in a golf-cart shuttle.
This pale yellow, three-story angular building has arched-fronted balconies. Its cubical-sized registration area is clogged with a plethora of brochures and a small "take-and-leave" library.
The second-floor Columbus restaurant
is independently managed and overlooks the harbor and small marina. Open 9 am to 11 pm, it offers an excellent menu and prepares several items tableside with panache. A band plays Bahamian music on the weekends. There is a catering service for yachts, and a poolside bar at the Beach Club serves snacks.
The on-site pool features waterfalls and a whirlpool. Guests have free access to Cabbage Beach, considered the best beach on Paradise Island. The sibling property has an exercise room, beauty salon, recreation room, minimart, and laundry, and guests here may avail themselves of all these facilities. Bikes, fishing poles and snorkeling equipment are complimentary. A golf course is one-half-mile east. Use of the office
Internet exacts a $10 fee daily.
The accommodations are well-maintained. Suites, one- or two-bedroom, are bright and immaculate with king beds. They feature a large living room and a kitchenette with dining area. All have a dining patio or balcony facing the harbor, although views are partially blocked by the two-story restaurant. The well-equipped kitchens come with blenders, dishwashers, coffeemakers and microwaves. All have TVs, CD players and a safe. The baths are fitted with combination tubs and showers. Lockout rooms, with a king bed and minibar, do not face the water and do not have a balcony or terrace. Baths, appliances and furniture are all upgraded on a regular basis.
Room service operates during restaurant hours. No pets are allowed and there are no smoke-free accommodations. Neither is there an elevator, but ground-floor rooms are wheelchair-accessible. The water taxi to Nassau is free, but the twice weekly trip to Rose Island carries a charge of $17.50. The 22-slip marina accommodates boats up to 180 ft.
This is a good option for boaters and those looking for a grand holiday experience that does not include a mega resort. Closed two weeks in September.
