This northern port and supply town on the Sangha River rates a visit only if you're already in the area. People-watching is the sole attraction. The diminutive Pygmies (who make up about 10% of Congo's population) live in nearby villages and often visit the town. If your time is limited, fly there and return by boat—a two- or three-day trip down the Sangha to the Congo River and on to Brazzaville. Above-adequate accommodations are available on some of the more modern boats. Nearby is the Dzanga-Sangha Reserve, which stretches into the neighboring Central African Republic. 400 mi/645 km north of Brazzaville.
