Just west of the intersection of routes 16 and 302 at Settlers' Green, adjacent to the region's largest shopping center and outlet mall and within walking distance of motel row, this big place remains a comfortable, commercial hotel that offers up more individuality than comparable suburban Hiltons and Holiday Inns. Service here is certainly better than its grade would indicate, and rooms are two steps above its grade. Despite its urban-condo architecture, this property offers enough regional charm to please individual travelers, but groups are the mainstay here. Consistent maintenance and thoughtful upgrades keep this hotel looking good.
A small artificial pond glistens in back, and floral carpeting, alpine overtones and a grand fieldstone fireplace grace the multilevel lobby. The main restaurant and bar have a fun lodge look with pine accents, and children will love the fluffy, life-sized moose and black bear. The tavern offers beer on tap, accompanied by traditional pub grub.
The impressive recreational facilities include a fitness room with lockers, a sauna, game area, tennis courts, a large indoor pool and an indoor whirlpool. Children's programs are offered throughout the year, and ice skating on the pond
out back is a favorite winter pastime. The region's most complete conference facilities accommodate up to 800 people in 15 rooms. The laundry room is a helpful extra, and parking is free.
The tastefully styled guest rooms are a real surprise, offering fine traditional surroundings with rich colors, light-wood furniture, upholstered chairs, coffeemakers, irons, ironing boards, valances, quilted spreads and wall-mounted headboards. Technological amenities include data ports, voice mail, Nintendo video-game systems, complimentary Internet access and 27-inch TVs with DVD players. The excellent baths provide hair dryers. Premium-floor accommodations demand inflated prices for a minimum of amenities. Smoke-free and wheelchair-accessible rooms are available. Room service stops at 10:30 pm. Pets are not permitted.
Skiers and hikers appreciate White Mountain Hotel & Resort's authentic ambience, but shoppers checking in here will think they've died and gone to heaven.
