This immense, value-laden property sprinkled with island villas is an absolute delight for its refreshing simplicity yet stunning views.
The site of a former sugar plantation, the decor and style is ripe with traditional appeal. Arrivals are greeted with a genuine welcome and assisted to their villa before being left alone for almost the remainder of the stay (after all, that's the beauty of this place).
The aptly named Sugarcane restaurant opens its doors for lunch and dinner with tangy Caribbean specialties and European influences on the menu. In a special twist, the culinary staff can perform their magic recipes in the comfort of guest villas for a more romantic evening. Breakfast is a do-it-yourself affair however, as the restaurant is closed.
Recreation centers around three beaches, a veritable private oasis for the miniscule room count here. Also on-site are a tennis court, pool,
whirlpool and spa with a limited treatment menu. Bocce ball and croquet appeal to more distinguished athletes.
Each unit is fully furnished with the necessities for a self-sustaining vacation and feature decor fitting for an island retreat. The kitchenettes support modern appliances and utensils, the baths are stocked with towels and toiletries, and the ample windows supply impressive natural views.
Air conditioning cools down the interiors and private plunge pools at villas keep guests cooled once they step outside. Suites and studios enjoy access to central pools, but do not maintain the same level of privacy.
Colorful fabrics energetically cover the king or queen beds, and unique wall art reminds guests that this is the Caribbean after all. Sofas, teak ceiling fans and wicker furnishings are also in place.
Reliable electricity is a special bonus here unlike other outposts on the island. Plus modern convenience is not sacrificed either with amenities such as cable TVs, coffeemakers, satellite radios, hair dryers, iPod docking stations, CD/DVD players and safes all in place.
Cozy studios and bedroom units fetch the least, and one five-bedroom villa carries the heftiest price tag. The latter even come with outdoor showers for a true connecting-with-nature experience. Most have washers and dryers too. Families can book adjoining units for additional space.
During the holiday season, a minimum stay requirement is imposed. Housekeeping does a fine job during their six visits per week. The distance from most units to the beach is close enough to hear crashing waves, and the quality of units here make this one of the better villa resorts on the island.
