Modeled after the Louvre, the Philadelphia Museum of Art is among the largest and most important art museums in the U.S. Amid the more than 300,000 artworks and objects dating from the Middle Ages through the present, there's a wonderful collection of Asian art that contains objects as old as 3,000 BC, a Japanese ceremonial teahouse and a Chinese palace hall. The European collections include medieval masterpieces, a 13th-century French cloister, Renaissance masterpieces and superb impressionist and postimpressionist works.
