In perhaps the most envied location in Lima, this property overlooks the ocean and the vibrant renovated seafront promenade, two short blocks from the popular Larco Mar entertainment complex. This is an island of North American style, fashion and food in the heart of the Peruvian capital—complete with a Pizza Hut and KFC across the street to complete the effect. Comprised of two striking twin glass highrises—one with office space, the other with the hotel and casino—this glamorous, shimmering hotel makes a stunning addition to this city's burgeoning skyline.
Bold and contemporary sum up the flashy interiors. Elevators from the street-level entrance lead to a dramatic and soaring lobby with sculptural lighting, a sunken fountain, and plenty of seating for taking in the sea view over palm trees. Large-scale colonial paintings and photos of old Lima provide some local reminders among
the international sheen and easy listening music. The striking contemporary bar is popular with local power brokers and business travelers attached to their cell phones. The open-kitchen grill advertises itself as Latin, but guests are unlikely to be surprised by anything on offer. Beef flown in from the States is grilled to perfection. The La Vista waterview cafe serves burgers and fries alongside tamales and ceviche. Water views are prominent throughout the hotel thanks to the huge windows on the front of the hotel. There isn't a room in the house without some sort of watery vista.
The excellent gym, pool, tennis court, sauna and massage room provide healthy alternatives to the smoky casino, which like most in this city wedges only a few tables between the banks of slot machines. The superb conference space, which has a private entrance of intelligent design, hosts up to 700 in an
array of rooms and is supported by a staffed business center. Expensive parking, a tour desk, numerous shops, and shuttles to the airport round out the offerings.
Hallways that could just as well be in Anytown, USA as Lima lead to well-equipped rooms set up for business travelers. The bright contemporary decor in the guest rooms blends natural color schemes, fine appointments, and regional fabrics in geometric patterns. These are some of the largest rooms in Lima, all with plush carpeting, roomy sitting areas, desks, king, queen, or paired twin beds, but a stiff-backed chair at the desk. Spacious tile and marble baths have stall showers, separate tubs, magnifying mirrors, scales, hair dryers, and the widest array of toiletries in town. Large TVs, high-speed Internet access, minibars, coffeemakers, clock radios, irons and ironing boards, and closets with safes top the list of amenities.
Note, however, that a bottle of Evian from the minibar costs more than a good meal in one of the neighboring restaurants.
Oddly for a hotel of this stature, 12 junior suites are the only non-standard offerings, so those who crave more space are better off looking elsewhere. Room service never stops, and nightly turndown props up the deluxe aspirations of this strongly commercial hotel.
Like a convention resort in Orlando, this vibrant and noisy hive can overwhelm, especially for those who crave peace and quiet. For road warriors who see every city as a work stop, however, this cliffside corporate crossroad is just the ticket.
