This inland harbor town, set on the partly polluted Lielupe River, was once a favorite of the Duke of Courland and is currently a center of the textile industry.

Tervete, which is full of wooden sculpture of gnomes—the fairytale characters from a book by a famous Latvian writer, Anna Brigadiere.
