Company Overview for Mercure Hotels
Within the Accor group of hotels,
Mercure is the brand that represents regionalism. In decor, in cuisine and in style, each property is designed to reflect the influences of its region. More than 750 Mercure hotels, all different, operate in 49 countries. Included in this network are the chains Parthenon, Libertel, Orbis and All Seasons.
The hotels are generally located in city centers, close to business districts and tourist attractions. Rooms are graded standard, enhanced comfort and refined, with each step-up offering an increase in services and amenities.
Mercure has built its expertise in the leisure sector by developing specific themes for its properties. Examples include the Mercure Paris Porte d’Orleans, which utilizes the theme of market gardens because it occupies a site on the outskirts of Paris where vegetable gardens were once cultivated. The Mercure Roissy Paris CDG adopted the theme of bread because it is located on former grain fields in the region of La Beauce. The Mercure Rimini La Gradisca pays homage to the cinematic work of Fellini, and the Mercure Amsterdam Aan de Amstel evokes the world of canals and barges.
The chain supports and emphasizes this customized approach, which it calls 'thematization,' and employs the system as a marketing tool. Mercure hoteliers are encouraged to become familiar with all aspects of life in their area, and to promote team motivation.
Chefs prepare regional dishes using local produce at all meals. The wine list includes local selections, too, and certain labels are offered at substantial discounts. An unusual feature at these restaurants is the presence of a professional echanson, who functions in much the same role as a sommelier but dispenses advice on food as well as wine—and on the pairing of the two.
Mercure hotels offer discounts of 10% to 40% (depending on the hotel) on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, public holidays and days before public holidays. Guests 55 and over can reserve a room for two, and Mercure will waive the charge for the second person.
Parent company Accor operates a loyalty program based on its 'Favorite Guest' card. Card-holders receive discounts at seven Accor hotel brands: Sofitel, Novotel, Suitehotel, Ibis, Thalassa, Coralia and Mercure. They also win complimentary points toward future hotel stays. Other benefits include: guaranteed room with late arrival, guarantee of a room with three days' notice, extended checkout times, welcome drink at certain hotels, and price breaks on car rentals.
