Off Highway 17, next door to Kingston Plantation and the sprawling Embassy Suites, on the beach, this imposing facility is 4 miles north of the hotel-row clamor. Formerly the Wyndham Myrtle Beach Resort (and previously the Hilton), this property has returned to its original brand. Set below the Westin and the Marriott in the ranks, it competes more in line with the Crowne Plaza.
The 15-story atrium gleams with a polished floor, clean classic styling, contemporary art and lots of potted palms. Comfortable seating comes in yellow, black and white upholstery. All meals are served in the mezzanine-level Italian restaurant. Its wood floors, stylish blue and white wicker furnishings, and attractive lighting line its window-walls overlooking the coastline. The lounge features comfortable sofas, easy chairs and bar seating. Its flat-screen TV is a relief for those who need a news fix or who tire of watching the waves roll in. In addition, a poolside cafe and circular bar serve lunch and drinks in season
with bands performing by the pool.
Fitness buffs speed toward the smallish outdoor pool, children's wading pool, outdoor whirlpool, four lighted tennis courts and well-equipped exercise room. Rounding out the recreational amenities are a playground, an oceanfront deck with lounge chairs and direct beach access, and an 18-hole Rees Jones golf course (and another 100 courses nearby) for duffers.
Attractive meeting space fills the mezzanine, and a second ballroom on the 16th floor overlooks the ocean. Conference capacity tops out at 1,000 delegates, and parking is adequate.
Open-air and courtyard walkways lead to crisp accommodations that are adequate but could use some refreshing touches. They display green carpeting, light contemporary commercial-grade
furniture and a seashore color scheme. All have TVs, refrigerators, coffeemakers, safes, clock radios, large mirrors and combination baths. All afford ocean views thanks to the shape of the building, and those on the front edges are perfect for oceanfront views without much noise from the parking lot. Some rooms are smoke-free, and guests can rely on room service until 11 pm.
The adjacent tower is filled with one- to three-bedroom condominiums that are equipped with kitchens, washers and dryers along with furnished ocean-view condominiums.
Golfers love it here, with many returning year after year. This is also a relaxing option for individuals who do not insist on walking to the Strip, and it also ranks high with families with restless kids.
