One block west of the Moskovsky train station, two blocks from the Corinthian and the Radisson SAS, a 30-minute stroll to the Hermitage, this hotel is a Swiss-managed endeavor geared toward self-sufficient types in search of space. Composed of suites and two- and three-bedroom apartments, the hotel also houses the Swiss Consulate General, which adds an extra layer of security here. The 1828 building's ornate, three-story facade is painted a bold shade of green that stands out in this umber neighborhood.
A gated entry opens to a lovely courtyard,
where tables and chairs invite summertime relaxation. Facilities are limited to a small, traditionally appointed lobby and a restaurant and bar with access from the street. The multilingual staff is good at arranging sightseeing and transportation.
All meals are served in trendy Marius Pub, offering Russian and international fare in more inviting surroundings than the name would suggest. The adjoining pub is especially lively on the weekends. There is no pool. Guests can use a complimentary 24-hour business center with Internet access,
computers and photocopying. Parking is free.
The clean-lined contemporary accommodations are better than those at the Corinthian. All show stylish furnishings, quality carpeting and fabrics, separate living rooms with dining tables and comfortable lounge areas. Except in a few Junior Apartments, kitchens come with refrigerators, stoves and enough pots, pans and cutlery to celebrate May 1st in style. The bedrooms are not large but have attractive and thoughtful lighting and tiled baths with hair dryers and toiletries. TVs and phones are standard. Courtyard views are best and prove the quietest too.
Housekeeping is excellent, and the Swiss management is evident, though service is of the adequate Russian ilk. This is a very small, homelike hotel with a certain Swiss feeling about it. Even though it might not appeal to business travelers, this place can provide tourists with a nice, relaxing atmosphere amidst the busy streets of St. Petersburg.
