On a hill with stellar views of the Aegean and a golden beach, six km from the ferry port in the heart of Mykonos Town, and the same from the airport, this place is a feather in the cap of this esteemed Greek chain and among the finest full-scale resorts on this island. Its distance away from the island's hedonistic nightlife and its babysitting service make it perfect for families, however, the cliffside location makes it rather difficult for elderly people to get around the hotel grounds. Designed to complement local architecture but also to adhere to feng shui principles, this interesting complex of whitewashed cubes hangs elegantly above cosmopolitan Psarrou Beach.
The refurbished spacious lobby features a most original decor: a front office styled after an old grocery store; a bizarre landscape of tree trunks transformed into furniture; and the romantic candlelit lobby bar shaped like a whale's tale. Large
picture windows reveal dramatic views of the bay below. The fashionable look of the lobby is further underlined by the turquoise and dark blue outfits of the staff. Half a dozen furnished terraces offer lovely perches from which to enjoy sea views and sunsets.
Dining ranges from informal buffets and poolside taverna fare to gourmet cuisine under the supervision of renowned French chef Alain Ducasse.
Recreation is well-established and just as stylish as the rest of the hotel, offering a fitness center with a recently upgraded gym, a steam bath, sauna and whirlpool, a spa with three treatment rooms for herbal treatments and massage, and indoor and outdoor pools. A section of the beach right below the hotel is reserved for hotel guests, with free sun chairs and refreshments offered. Extensive
watersports and scuba instruction are also available. The staff is happy to organize private torch-lit dinners and parties on the beach or by the pool.
The beautifully appointed library has two PCs for Internet access and three meeting rooms host up to 500. Plans include the addition of wireless Internet access throughout the hotel premises. Limited business services and ample parking round out the offerings.
Playful and very romantic accommodations, all with furnished terraces, carry the island's familiar contrasting white and blue color schemes—most notably in the striped spreads and the sea-blue cushions that sit atop built-in sofas and white appointments. The iron bedsteads, draped in silky gauze, add to the air-conditioned rooms' allure. Phones with voice mail and data ports, plasma TVs,
DVD and CD players, beach towels, safes, robes, slippers and lovely marble-trimmed baths with hair dryers, phones and plenty of upscale toiletries are the norm. Minibar offerings also include an amenity box with thoughtful extras such as suntan lotion and condoms. All rooms greet arrivals with complimentary bottles of wine and fruit upon arrival. Twelve standard rooms lack sea views, but round soaking tubs compensate for this shortcoming. Four Junior Suites provide private plunge pools, enhanced entertainment systems and espresso machines. Room service operates round the clock.
The friendly, efficient staff provides a warm halo at this fine, upscale member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts. Relatively large for this island, the Mykonos Blu manages to convey a welcome sense of exclusivity.
