From 1843 to 1900, this town was the colonial capital. The town retains much of the architectural charm of that time. In the former Governor's Palace, you can see the Musee National du Costume, which exhibits traditional clothing and Korhogo cloth.
Those wishing to buy textiles similar to those featured in the museum can drop by the artisan cooperative, which sells tie-dyed and printed fabrics as well as carvings. There is also a lagoon-fronting beach in town. Plan on touring both Grand Bassam and Bingerville on a day trip or overnight excursion from Abidjan. Return to Abidjan by way of the peaceful fishing village
