In a desirable residential neighborhood, facing Liberty Bell Park and the Montefiore windmill, this hotel formerly the Laromme, is still the best commercial hotel within walking distance of the Old City. Built of traditional golden sandstone, this stair-stepped nine-story citadel is not as elegant as the other grand hotels here, but it does offer a sophisticated, uniquely residential air.
Everywhere in this hotel, from the extremely efficient front desk to the high-rise atrium in its interior, marble floors gleam appealingly. At the heart of the Inbal is a wonderful courtyard visible from nearly all common rooms. In summer, it is the most popular dining spot, where
lavish breakfast buffets, sumptuous luncheons, and candlelit dinners are served. Flanked by a cafe and a bar, the long, spacious lounge resembles an elegant living room highlighted with sleek glass-topped coffee tables, porcelain table lamps, comfortable armchairs, and handsomely upholstered sofas. The popular kosher Italian restaurant has a proud tradition in the city, and frequently hosts dignitaries. Summer barbecues alongside the pool are a Jerusalem tradition. The snackbar and room service work day and night.
The small "spa", which is really more like a good health club, offers massage, beauty treatments and a well-equipped gym. The state-of-the-art, designer-renovated
conference facilities—seven rooms with a capacity for 1,000 people—are among the best in Israel, and prices are among the most reasonable. Parking underground is free.
The fresh, comfortable guest rooms have plush carpeting, soft chairs and sofas, dramatic lighting, blackout drapes, TVs, and Internet access, both wireless and through data ports. The colorful combination baths are fitted with magnifying mirrors and marble vanities. Standards face the courtyard, while premium rooms fetch top shekel for views of the Old City. Deluxe rooms boast private, extremely large balconies. As luxurious as the accommodations are, they are constantly being refurbished and improved. All guests are greeted by lavish fruit bowls upon arrival and chocolates on turned-down beddings at night.
This is a good choice, particularly for individuals, who will find a location within walking distance to tourist sights, efficient service, and good food, all of which place the Inbal on the luxury level of the King David and David Citadel at more affordable prices. Families will find the Inbal an excellent base for their special celebrations. The high occupancy is due to the capable, gracious management and staff.
