Accommodations range from first-rate (nearly deluxe) hotels to YMCAs/YWCAs and basic hotels, hostels and guesthouses. Hardy travelers wishing to stay along the coast at the old forts (transformed into "rest houses") should make reservations in advance if possible. (Caretakers will, for a small fee, cook seafood bought from local fishermen.) We highly recommend staying in as deluxe a property as possible to minimize hassles.
