Morningside Nature Center

Sightseeing - Parks & Gardens
3540 E. University Ave., Gainesville, FL
Phone: 352-334-2170

It's hard to imagine living in Florida without air-conditioning, especially when you see the primitive homestead at Morningside. Learn about the hardscrabble existence of Florida pioneers of the 1870s. Interpreters dress in period costumes on Saturdays during Living History Days, when you can sample hot biscuits straight from the oven and, at 9 am and 3 pm, help feed the animals. Ranger-led wildflower walks are held the last Saturday of each month at 9 am. Daily 9 am-5 pm. Admission to the park is free, but visitors must pay an entrance fee on Living History Days (US$2 adults, US$1 children). 3540 E. University Ave. (about 3 mi/5 km from downtown), Gainesville. Phone 352-334-2170. http://www.cityofgainesville/natureoperations.org.
