Towering high above the Nile, this mammoth structure sits squarely between the Grand Hyatt and the Intercontinental Semiramis and remains the clear winner among the city's three most centrally located downtown properties. It is the newest and most expensive of the three, but it is its service levels that are most impressive. The public areas eschew the popular style of many new hotels in favor of a classical decor with silk-lined walls and freshly cut flower arrangements. Staffers smile at every turn, offering their assistance whenever necessary.
Endless dining options abound at the hotel. It is a popular destination for locals, too. Bella dishes out delicious Italian cuisine with wood-burning stoves producing a rustic atmosphere and some of the most delicious breads
and fresh pastas along the river. A steakhouse is popular, offering choice cuts and an occasional sushi dish. Spice is the property's signature Chinese restaurant, serving from a Cantonese menu. Pacific Rim fare is served up in a restaurant overlooking the Nile; it is named Aqua, appropriately. A Lebanese restaurant is authentic and features an open show kitchen. Dining by the pool is a popular affair; drinks are also served here. Multiple bars are spread across the property and include the active lobby bar.
The spa is run by Daniela Steiner, an experienced brand of wellness centers. As a result, guests can expect extensive and elaborate treatments in more than a dozen private rooms. Saunas, steam rooms, and whirlpools await. An indoor pool is perfect on blistering hot
days, and it connects to an outdoor option ringed with lounge chairs. A full gym is loaded with the latest and best in workout equipment. Nearly 1,000 guests can congregate onsite with a plethora of business services available at their fingertips.
Carpeted guest rooms are elaborately decorated and proportioned with king or queen beds and spacious sitting areas. Bright gold and red colors embrace guests warmly (as if taking a step out onto the balcony will not do the same thing). Artwork reflects the history of the region, but the amenities are 21st century: high-speed Internet (both wired and wireless for a fee), cable TVs, wireless phones with voice mail and data ports, electronic safes, and minibars. Soundproofing is impeccable thanks to triple-glazed windows. Marble baths are well-equipped, boasting glass-enclosed showers, soaking tubs, an endless array of L'Occitane toiletries and Egyptian towels, slippers, robes, makeup mirrors and hair dryers.
Request a room facing the Nile to appreciate the true value of this location. Room service runs round the clock, and small pets are allowed.
This is undoubtedly the best choice along the Nile and competes with the Conrad for top spot in the city, although its Four Seasons sibling by the Pyramids is perfect for guests heading to the sites.
