Running along the south coast from Port Hastings to St. Peter's, this short route gives you a look at a weather-beaten shoreline, Acadian villages and fishing communities. The entrance into Bras d'Or Lake (a vast saltwater lake at the center of Cape Breton Island) at St. Peter's Canal is stunning. Building the canal proved to be an engineering feat. Constructed over a 15-year period (1854-69), it's now a summertime mecca for leisure boaters.
