Accommodations range from expensive resort hotels to very modest guesthouses and huts. Most of the properties are well-run and clean. Of Fiji's large resort hotels, most are on Denarau Island near Nadi, several more are under construction south of Nadi, and the rest are on the Coral Coast. The country has one of the world's top collections of small, bungalow-style resorts, most of them on small outer islands. Choose the place where you will stay according to what you find important—being on a beach, near town, with a dive shop, etc.
Fiji is so busy that at times there can be a serious shortage of upscale hotel rooms in the popular areas. This problem has lessened in the past few years with the opening of new mega-resorts on Denarau Island. It's still important to have reservations if you want to be sure of staying at a particular place. The large hotels and resorts are usually less expensive when booked ahead as part of a tour package.
