With the exception of Windhoek (great German restaurants) and Swakopmund (food prepared for tourists), the local food on the game reserves and in the desert is basic (meat, vegetables, fruit) but tasty. Thanks to the German influence, you should be able to find cafes that sell pastries in most towns. The local lager is good (another German legacy)—the most common brand is Windhoek. Excellent South African wines are also available in major towns.
