The Slave Lodge, built in 1679 to house the slaves that worked the adjacent Company's Gardens, is the permanent home of what used to be the South African Cultural History Museum (now part of the Social History collections). It houses a series of artifacts and multimedia displays relating to slavery at the Cape Colony, as well as the trans-Atlantic slave trade between the west coast of Africa and the Americas and Caribbean.
