This property commandeers the bottom and top of a Bangkok skyscraper that looks like 60 stories of gray Lego blocks. The urban panoramas are fantastic. This all-suite hotel is geared to upscale business travelers with an excellent business center, extensive spa and lovely guest rooms.
Stylish dining and drinking are available in the avant-garde, open-air grill and bar, aptly named Vertigo. As the tallest outdoor restaurant in southeast Asia, this 62nd-floor rooftop restaurant-bar serves seafood underneath the stars, with panoramic city views. Although the music is often too loud, young locals flock here. A little closer to earth, Rom Sai, which overlooks rock gardens and a pond, serves international specialties.
Other nice dining options include seafood at Pier 59, Chinese at Bai Yun, Thai food at Saffron, and Japanese at Tai Hei. Drinks are poured in the lobby lounge and at two rooms with views, Latitude and Moon Bar on the 52nd and 61st floors
respectively.
The spa has plenty of exercise equipment and a full menu of health treatments. Three Spa Suites offer guests a free Thai massage session and lessons, as well as access to a complimentary private spa therapy room staffed by a massage therapist. An outdoor swimming pool on the edge of the city's growing skyline offers panoramic vistas and aquatic relief from the humidity. Event coordinators assist guests in planning and organizing business functions, while technology gurus are on hand to assist all guests with computer problems. Wireless Internet access is available in public areas.
Suites are done in minimalist, yet elegant Thai style. Wooden teak walls, silk trimmings, paintings and teak furniture complete the decor. The sitting rooms, king bedrooms and large baths are designed to meet the needs of busy corporate types, with large desks and phones with data ports. Banyan Tree Club Suites add fax machines.
Virtually all bedrooms have good views of the river, and all suites are connected to a LAN Internet network (for a fee), with 24-hour technical support. Unusual Far Eastern bonuses include aromatherapy oils and incense burners. Guests are welcomed with complimentary drinking water, coffee and tea, newspapers, a fruit basket and flowers.
All Spa Suites have king beds, separate living rooms, comfortable sofas, DVD players, safes and writing tables. Baths provide showers, large tubs and abundant toiletries, including a complimentary spa gift pack.
Presidential Suite and Club guests receive additional benefits, including free use of a boardroom and complimentary laundry, dry-cleaning and pressing services (limited to four pieces a day), as well as self-body scrubs, spa treatments, and complimentary drinks, snacks and neck and shoulder massages at the Club Lounge.
Room service runs constantly, and turndown service visits nightly. For children, restaurants offer a special menu and simple distractions such as toys or games. Baby-sitters and personal shoppers are available 24 hours a day.
The hotel sells the usual bric-a-brac at two shops. Shuttles make scheduled runs within the city limits, and limousine service to the airport is available for a fee. Pets are not allowed.
Individuals will feel comfortable here, including business travelers, who are mostly European. Although similar to the Swissotel Nai Lert Park in amenities, this all-suite property still holds the leadership position among resort-style hotels in the heart of the city.
