Vancouver Vacation Planning Guide

Vancouver Money

The best exchange rates can generally be found at the large downtown banks. ATMs also dispense Canadian currency and can be accessed using most major credit cards and bank cards. You'll find ATMs nearly everywhere. There are also currency exchange booths at the airport and in downtown Vancouver, including one in the TouristInfo Centre located at 200 Burrard St.

Taxes

Nearly all goods and services are subject to a 7% provincial sales tax (PST), as well as a 6% federal Goods and Services Tax (GST). There is a 10% tax on all liquor sold in British Columbia. Most accommodations are subject to a 10% provincial hotel and motel room tax.

The former "Tax Refund for Visitors" program related to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) has been discontinued and replaced with a program that offers tax incentives for foreign group, convention and package travelers. For details, contact Canada Customs and Revenue Agency, 275 Pope Road, Suite 104, Summerside, PE C1N 6C6, Canada. Phone 902-432-5608. http://www.ccra-adrc.gc.ca/visitors.

Tipping

A 15%-20% tip is customary in restaurants. For bellhops, Can$2 per bag is appropriate. Local taxi drivers usually receive Can$1-$2 per ride or 10%-15% of the fare.
