Established in 1990, the government-owned Kairaba was one of the first luxury hotels to anticipate the beach tourism boom in Gambia, and it is still the most luxurious of the country's larger package hotels.
Set in 40 acres of lush mature gardens teeming with birdlife, the hotel lies about 20 km from Banjul in the beachfront suburb of Kololi, where it shares a long sandy beach with the larger and less luxurious Senegambia Hotel, a well-known local landmark.
