Vacationers who travel to Cairo, Egypt, can't help but find themselves immersed in the ancient past; artifacts are everywhere. The most famous Cairo attractions include the Egyptian Museum (locally known as "The Warehouse"), the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx. The neighborhoods of Old Cairo and Islamic Cairo also are worth seeing. If it gets overwhelming, take a break and sail in a felucca on the Nile River.
Even the most dedicated shopper can't get through all of Cairo's markets, the most famous of which is Khan el-Khalili. Expect to bargain—hard. Jewelry and papyrus make popular souvenirs, but know what you are looking at.
